Party like it's 1999! |
Yellow meant free ice cream! Green is the real envy! |
Photo bomb of a lady jealous of our prizes! |
New Year's Eve in Rapid should definitely be spent in front of the Alex Johnson at midnight. I'm not sure if this is an annual occurrence but check it out if it is....Ping-Pong Throw Extravaganza. That's not the actual name but it sure would be fitting! After a night of ringing in the New Year like it's 1999, the Alex Johnson hotel had a ball drop and then proceeded to throw out colored ping-pong balls. Tyler, his friends, and I had no idea what was going on. All we knew was to get as many balls in our pockets as possible...which just happens to be everyone else's idea.
Ping pong balls were bouncing everywhere. Kids (yes, children) were fighting adults (lushes, all of 'em). After all balls were thrown, everyone then went into the lobby to claim their prizes. Prizes!!! There were prizes involved! I can't remember what color went with what prize. The non-colored balls were worth nothing. Tyler had caught several of these. I, on the other hand, had caught a red, yellow, and green one. I was pumped. We ended up with a few gift certificates for free ice cream, free dessert at a restaurant, and $10 off at some boutique. I hit the mother-load!!! The green was for $50 in cash!!! I haven't been that happy in a while. Plus, I doubt the champagne hurt.
Tips for New Year's Eve in Rapid:
1. Be at the Hotel Alex Johnson at midnight for the ball drop and ping-pong scramble.
2. Don't be at the Alex Johnson prior to midnight. Tyler and I had tickets to their party. Not fun AT ALL until after midnight.
3. Bars downtown had some serious dancing. We ended up at Murphy's. We danced and people watched and dance some more.
4. Get brunch at Tally's after a long night of dancing and catching ping pong balls.
